The Launch of Queensland's Government MyQ2 - a dynamic e-government web portal

Mediasphere was appointed by the Queensland Government - the Department of Premier and Cabinet - to build a world-first in Gov 2.0 web portals. Mediasphere is pleased to announce the launch of stage 1 of the project - MyQ2 - www.myq2.com.au.  The MyQ2 website is a social change tool developed by the Queensland Government to encourage and inspire Queenslanders to take action toward the 10 Q2 targets. MyQ2 asks people to commit to simple, everyday actions to make tomorrow’s Queensland strong, green, smart, healthy and fair.

The Queensland Government has framed its 2020 vision for Queensland around five ambitions and 10 long-term measurable targets that address current and future challenges. These targets are helping make Tomorrow’s Queensland strong, green, smart, healthy and fair.

Green – Protecting our lifestyle and environment

Smart – Delivering world-class education and training

Healthy – Making Queenslanders Australia’s healthiest people

Fair – Supporting safe and caring community

Our project involved the research, design and development of a dynamic e-government website – www.myq2.com.au – that provides Queenslanders with the tools and advice about simple things that they can do to contribute to the achievement of the targets - https://www.myq2.com.au/commitments .

The website portal is designed for individuals and families, business and industry, communities and all levels of government. The interaction and collaboration is achieved through people committing to a range of commitments that contribute to the targets under each ambition. These commitments are simple and can be personalised or completed with others. 

MyQ2 provides a vehicle for individuals to track their progress against commitments, measure impacts by suburb/town, local government area, state electorate, region or all of Queensland .  After an individual completes a commitment, the website transforms to become a personal site for the member with their profile showing their progress and achievements.

They have the ability to share their progress with their friends on social networking sites and thus promote wider action and involvement from the community. The actions of the individual are reported in the site’s database that displays in the interactive maps on the Home Page.

The MyQ2 website is unique in that it represents one of the most advanced deployments of Gov 2.0 elements in the southern hemisphere.

MyQ2 is a dynamic website that is informative and interactive. An online community of members makes and completes commitments in a range of areas from education to the environment and health. The site is powered by a database that drives the visual presentation of the completed commitments by members in the form of an interactive map on the home page of the site. Visitors can explore the commitments and progress made by members of the MyQ2 community by choosing and comparing different areas of the state on the map. This encourages participation via competition between suburbs and areas. When the visitor has explored the site, they can choose to become a member of the community and sign up to their own commitments.

At this point the site transforms by introducing the personal element of being able to select your own commitments and to contribute to the goals of the online community. Community members can commit to a range of goals and share their commitments with other community members and friends.
